The Cal State Student Association (CSSA) monitors and advocates legislative policy on behalf of CSU students. The organization’s legislative affairs committee reviews, researches and makes recommendations to the CSSA Board of Directors on all state and federal related items originating from the state and federal governments.

BILL POSITIONS

CSSA sponsors and advocates for and against bills in the legislature on behalf of CSU students. The organization’s legislative affairs committee reviews, researches and makes recommendations to the CSSA Board of Directors on pertinent higher education legislation from the state and federal governments.

Bill Positions

STATE ADVOCACY

CSSA advocates for students at the California capitol in Sacramento and in district offices throughout the year. This advocacy includes ensuring student needs are reflected in the annual state budget, policies, and other state run programs that effect students at our institution.

Advocacy Campaign (TBA)

FEDERAL ADVOCACY

CSSA maintains a federal relations program in order to affect federal policies that impact CSU students. This program includes regular advocacy trips to Washington, D.C., where students meet with elected officials and higher education stakeholders about pressing higher education issues and provide a valuable CSU student perspective.

SHARE ON SOCIAL

The California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS) is an annual conference where CSU student leaders from across the system participate in various training sessions on state governance, higher education and public policy, and conducting lobby visits at the California Capitol.
