Applicants and position holders must be:

• 18 years or older
• eligible for in-state tuition based on the following:
  • a citizen of the state of California as defined by California Government Code 241 or qualify for exemption from paying nonresident tuition as defined by California Education Code §66016.3
• a current undergraduate student maintaining 6 semester (9 quarter) units or a current graduate student maintaining 3 semester (4 quarter) units
• in good standing, and not on academic, disciplinary or administrative probation
• have obtained a 2.0 or greater grade point average during the previous term
• currently or will attain at least sophomore standing by July 1, 2025

Applicants that meet the minimum requirements for the Student Trustee position must be verified by your campus’ Vice President of Student Affairs or Dean of Students.

• Set a meeting with your Vice President of Student Affairs or Dean of Students
  • When scheduling your appointment, explain your interest in applying to be a California State University Student Trustee and you will request a verification of your status at your university from you Vice President of Student Affairs or Dean of Students.
• Complete the Digital Verification Form
  • Once you complete the form it will be sent to your Vice President of Student Affairs or Dean of Students (ensure you have a confirmed appointment with them before you complete the digital form)
• Meet with your Vice President of Student Affairs or Dean of Students
  • Guide for meeting with your Vice President of Student Affairs or Dean of Students:
    • Introduce yourself and speak about your interest in the position
    • Answer any questions your Vice President may have
    • Inquire about your Digital Verification Form if you haven’t already received the complete copy
• Once your Vice President of Student Affairs signs and completes the DocuSign the Verification Form will be emailed to us directly.
• Late verification forms will result in an incomplete application and not be considered.

Applicants will need two to three individuals to submit a letter of recommendation on their behalf. Letters of recommendations should be non-relatives that can speak to your skills, abilities, and knowledge that will make you an excellent candidate for the position of CSU Student Trustee.

• Applicants request the recommendation letters be emailed to search@calstatestudents.org with the full name of the applicant noted in the email by the application deadline of January 27, 2025 at 5:00 pm.

Applicants will provide a resume that includes relevant experiences, including but not limited to work (paid and/or unpaid), volunteer positions, and other leadership experiences. If you need assistance developing your resume, you are encouraged to visit your campus career center.

• Save your final resume as a .pdf and title it lastname_resume.pdf. Example: garcia_resume.pdf. You will submit this with your other supporting documents in Step 6 – Digital Application.

Applicants will need to include an essay, not longer than 750 words, to the following prompt:

Explain some of the issues the CSU is currently facing and how you would work on those issues as a member of the CSU Board of Trustees.

• Save your final essay as a .pdf and title it lastname_essay.pdf. Example: garcia_essay.pdf. You will submit this with your other supporting documents in Step 6 – Digital Application.

Before starting the Digital Application, ensure you have the following materials prepared to upload:

• Resume saved as a .pdf file; titled lastname_resume.pdf
• Essay saved as a .pdf file; titled lastname_essay.pdf

The Digital Application is due January 27, 2025 at 5:00 pm.
