Statement from CSSA President Khuraibet regarding Governor Newsom’s 2021-22 Budget Proposal

January 8, 2021

Cal State Student Association President Zahraa Khuraibet today issued the following statement on Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2021-22 proposed budget:

“At a time when so many Californians are struggling, we are thankful for Governor Newsom’s 2021-22 proposed budget investment in the California State University (CSU). In addition to his critical reinvestment in the CSU system, the budget proposal reflects an administration that continues to be student-centered and committed to closing equity gaps. We were particularly pleased to see the proposed $30 million in emergency financial aid for our students who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, $15 million for digital equity and mental health services, $15 million for the Basic Needs Initiative, and the extension of the Summer Financial Aid program. The California State Student Association looks forward to continuing to work with the Governor to ensure that the CSU is accessible, affordable, and sustainable for all students.”
