Statement from President Malhotra Regarding the Recent Reports on Sexual Harassment and Assault on Several CSU Campuses.

December 15, 2022

This week, in the midst of the stress of finals for CSU students, there have been news reports detailing the appalling actions members of our CSU community have endured at several campuses and the disappointing lack of urgency and response from leadership to address these actions. The issues that continue to plague the CSU have ignited deep concern, outrage, and sadness.

As President of the Cal State Student Association, I am once again calling on the Board of Trustees, system-wide, and campus leaders to investigate the systemic policies and behaviors that have repeatedly allowed our students to endure this type of trauma. There is no place for this type of behavior in our system. It is not enough to simply denounce this behavior; there must be swift and meaningful reform to protect the nearly half a million students in this system.

Our students already face unprecedented challenges to their mental health, food security, and housing, they should not also be forced to face the fear of sexual harassment and violence while pursuing their future on our university campuses.

The CSSA stands in solidarity with and remains first and foremost concerned with the care and support of our campus communities, especially survivors of sexual harassment and assault. Our students, their safety, and their well-being remain our top priority.

Krishan Malhotra

President, Cal State Student Association
